Cokiyu - Twinkle Way (with Baths)
Three minutes of pure bliss from composer and vocalist Cokiyu – like the soundtrack to the most wonderful, colourful dream you’ve ever had – taken from her new collaborative EP Haku. Her label, Tokyo-based Flau, is fast becoming one of our favourite labels in the world – check out this video from Berlin-based vibraphonist and fellow Flau artist Masayoshi Fujita, to see why.

Egyptian Hip-Hop - Tobago
Another brilliant video from Manchester’s Egyptian Hip Hop, seemingly inspired by the hilarious grainy footage of early acid house raves that pops up on Youtube from time to time. Check out another great video here and get yourself down to XOYO on March 4 to catch them live and feel the love.

Rhye - Open (Ryan Hemsworth Remix)
Mysterious LA duo Rhye’s 2012 single Open has been given a gentle aural facelift by producer/remixer/Nintendo lover Ryan Hemsworth. It’s neat and succinct like a cute gift. Rhye’s debut album Woman is released March 4 through Polydor; their debut London gig, at St Giles Church, March 5, is already sold out – you could just stay at home and put a Sade record on instead of course.

Dutch Uncles - Nometo (Field Music Remix)
Here’s a nice little remix of a recent Dutch Uncles (pictured) album track, by label-mates and fellow art-rock crusaders Field Music. It’s an unexpectedly abstract affair, with the latter’s David Brewis adding bass, keyboards and backing vox.
Out of Touch in the Wild, Dutch Uncles’ highly acclaimed third album, is out now on Memphis Industries.

Suuns - 2020
A nausea inducing vid to accompany an eerily hypnotic track – gotta love that riff – from Suuns’ new Images Du Futur album, released March 4 through Secretly Canadian. Warning: Contains flashing images.

Lilies on Mars - Oceanic Landscape (feat. Franco Battiato)
London-based Sardinian guitar bashers Lisa and Marina, aka Lilies on Mars, have been away for what seems like an age. Now they’re back with a new single, showing off their dreamier, softer side. Oceanic Landscape features guest vocals from frequent live collaborator and legendary Italian pop experimentalist Franco Battiato; Bella Union’s Simon Raymonde is already a fan, making it track of the week on his Amazing Radio show. Vondelpark - California Analog Dream
Dreamy Surrey trio Vondelpark seem to have hit the jackpot with this, a quite incredible reworking of a track that first appeared on their debut 2010 EP Sauna. It’s ambitious stuff from Lewis, Alex and Matt and one can’t help thinking the tag ‘the new XX’ will be hurled in their direction frequently over the coming months. Hopefully it won’t become an albatross. Like The XX, Vondelpark seem to have spent their time wisely, developing their sound from that of embryonic garage productions to spine tingling, festival-primed, atmospheric grooves with crossover appeal. In short, they now sound like a band that are going to be massive. Prepare yourselves for more gushing pieces from us, should the debut album – Seabed, out April 1 through R&S Records – turn out to be anything other than a steaming pile of dog crud.

Idiot Glee - Pinkwood
If this track from the new Idiot Glee EP were to be represented in pictorial form – by a cartoonist, say – it would probably be drawn as a luxurious, caramel filled chocolate bar with stick arms and legs, playing a bass guitar, possibly with a pair of funky sunglasses on. Kentuckian James Friley clearly loves Roxy Music; his Life Without Jazz EP, out February 26 via Atelier Ciseaux/BureauBureau, is his first new material since 2011’s Paddywhack.

Snipe Likes: Parquet Courts
If wiry, intelligent New York punk is the vestibule for Parquet Courts’ message, then chugging, skeletal guitars and a rich baritone of a vocal provide the method for this hotly-tipped four piece, formed from the remnants of various bands – Fergus and Geronimo; Teenage Cool Kids. Their debut album Light Up Gold gets a UK release in April; catch them live at The Garage (March 19), The Shacklewell Arms (20) and Sebright Arms (21).

Snipe Likes: Oyama
Sprightly Icelandic quintet Oyama – what the hell do they put in the water over there? It must be all the volcanic particles – are set to play there first ever UK gig at Koko, February 15. You can also catch them at the Brixton Windmill on the 16th, BRNLV Club (run by Snipe’s very own John Rogers) at the Oxford Cellar on the 17th, and finally the Water Rats on the 18th. In the meantime, enjoy the fantastically laid-back, quiet/loud dynamics of Everything Some of the Time, streaming below, taken from their recent I Wanna EP.
