Website

I am originally from Stratford, East London, and have been an active member of the Labour Party for 15 years. I am also a councillor in Barking & Dagenham.

As a Councillor in Barking & Dagenham my role involves reaching out to the wider community and setting council policy. I have played a key role in changing council policy on key issues such as shared services. I am also Chair of Housing & Regeneration Select Committee.

Prison Service— As a Prison Officer I worked with youth and drug misuse offenders. During my years as a Prison Officer I dealt with issues that would enable prisoner’s rehabilitation back into society. As a Senior Officer I was responsible for prisoners on the Mental Health & Drug wing.

London Probation Trust – I am a Board Member of the London Probation Trust, and work to reduce crime and create a safer community.

Educational Centre Manager — I now run an education centre in East London for young people who have been excluded from mainstream education. Working closely with Local Authorities and charity organisations I understand the difficulties that they now face.

School Governor – I am a School Governor at my local primary school

With the aid of the LGA Labour group (Local Government Association) I have been leading a campaign to find ways to improve representation at local and national level by encouraging candidates to come forward from a wider range of socio-economic backgrounds. I launched the campaign at the Labour LGA Spring Conference in March 2011. I have been talking to union leaders discussing how we might increase awareness in order to engage with working class communities. I also been leading on a project with East London Solutions and a number of East London borough on sharing local government services provision to ensure that frontline services are protected.
