Sachin Rajput is a practising barrister and a British Conservative Party politician. Sachin was born and bred in North-West London and continues to reside locally with his wife, Noreen. A former karate instructor of ten years, Sachin is now a barrister almost exclusively practising criminal law, having both a busy defence practice and also being an external prosecution barrister approved and authorised by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Sachin has experience of appearing in court as counsel for a wide range of offences including but not limited to murder, rape, kidnap, false imprisonment, supply of drugs, robbery, motoring offences and money laundering. In addition to working with experienced court-users such as police and probation service personnel, Sachin is experienced in working with vulnerable groups including child witnesses. Sachin also has some experience of family law, military law and prison law.

In addition to law, Sachin is a local Conservative Councillor and Barnet Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Services overseeing a budget in excess of £100 million. Prior to accepting his cabinet portfolio three years ago, Sachin also gained London-wide healthcare experience in addition to being a Councillor, as a Conservative-led Council appointee, during the period of the former Labour Government’s administration, by serving on the Pan-London Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee, tasked with scrutinising the Healthcare for London proposals for stroke and major trauma services in London. Whilst addressing the London-wide concerns, Sachin fought for residents in North-West London who appeared less-favoured in the Labour Government’s healthcare proposals.

Prior to entering politics in an elected capacity, Sachin served the voluntary-arm of the Conservative Party for many years in various posts but most notably he served Hendon Conservative Association in the run-up to the 2005 general election as acting-chairman and managed a cogent campaigning effort resulting in the Labour majority being cut from 7417 to 2699 in that constituency and subsequently resulting in that seat then being won by the Conservatives at the 2010 general election. Sachin himself stood as a parliamentary candidate in 2010, in the then newly drawn Brent Central constituency, in one of the most hotly-contested seats in the country where he remarkably increased the Conservative voting turnout.

Having served various schools as a governor for over ten years, Sachin is particularly proud to be currently serving a school for children with severe disabilities. Since 2002, Sachin has also been a trustee of an almshouse association that provides housing for elderly persons presenting themselves as poor and penniless. Sachin finds working with the almshouse association most rewarding giving him the opportunity of assisting people in their time of greatest need.

Sachin formerly served a national Indian charity for five years, with the majority of its membership residing in Brent and Harrow, serving as vice-president of the executive committee and later as a member of the board of trustees. Sachin used this opportunity to foster good relations with many Indian organisations including Hindu Council Brent, Hindu Council Harrow and Brent Indian Association to name a few. Through his various charitable and political achievements and commitments, Sachin has forged links with many organisations across the country but particularly in the London Boroughs of Barnet, Brent and Harrow making Sachin a popular figure in North-West London. As a result of his commitment and enthusiasm for London politics, and with his local knowledge and understanding of the needs of residents in North-West London Boroughs such as Barnet, Brent and Harrow in particular, Sachin has been selected by the Conservative Party to contest the Labour-held London Assembly seat for Brent and Harrow at the May 2012 Mayoral and GLA elections.

Sachin is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and the Society of Conservative Lawyers and in his spare time he enjoys travelling and the countryside.
