Housing is the next political battlefield, with council tenants and private renters at risk
The provision of so-called affordable housing has stuck in the Tory craw for many years. The idea that society might provide decent accommodation such that those on low incomes are not left to the mercy of predatory private sector landlords is, of course, anathema to a government of landowners.
But the scale of the attack mounted by this government on council housing is enough to elicit gasps. As a result of the Localism Bill, which was rushed through Parliament earlier this year and which is now waiting for royal assent, security of tenure for council tenants will be scrapped – a move that MP John McDonnell this week said “ends council housing as we know it.”

See this tonight: Summer Camp and Theme Park
17B Stoke Newington Road N16 8BH
It’s funny that this particular area of darkest Dalston is classified as Stoke Newington – maybe it was a typo in the postcode office that led to both The Nest (formerly Barden’s Boudoir) and the first floor “sports bar” Efes being classified as such. Tonight presumably the many screens of this all-hours drinking den will be turned off as Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey take the stage to celebrate the release of their debut album as Summer Camp, “Welcome To Condale”. Expect wholesome tunes, wistful sentiments and belting choruses, dressed in suitably hazy effects via Warmsley’s astute sonic sensibility. Support comes from Theme Park.

Two cheers for the latest Tfl crime figures
Crime on London public transport is down. Only a hopeless Livingstonian would bemoan this fact.

History doesn't stand still
It moves all over the shop.
First this, from the Diamond Geezer:
The London Stone is moving. You know the one – the ancient stone in Cannon Street, the rock that legend says is linked to the destiny of our capital city. It’s being removed from behind the grille on the shop opposite the station, and relocated to an office block down the road.
Now this, from Peter Watts:
Next week, Museum of London Archaeology will begin a three year project that will put the Temple of Mithras back where it belongs, and restore it to something closer to its original form.
The remarkable thing about both these monuments is that this isn’t even their first move. They’ve been shunted about right left and centre. Do stones lose value when wrenched from their ancient beds? Not in London’s case it seems, perhaps because there’s so much history everywhere that something old will always feel meaningful, however newly it is laid.

Occupy LSX get ultimatum to leave by 1800 today. Or else...not very much
The City of London Corporation have issued an ultimatum. If it’s not complied with, there could well be…another ultimatum. Legally this process must be followed, but it’s clear that this protest is not going to end without police dragging people across the Cathedral steps. It’ll make quite the news report, especially if they do it against the backdrop of the St Paul’s Christmas lights. Stay tuned.

Mayor Johnson misuses 24.8% of all statistics
THAT HEADLINE IS A JOKE
I don’t know how many stats he has peddled inaccurately. But it’s more than he should. Let’s review.
