Art in the belfry

Interesting, imaginative use of space at the church of St John on Bethnal Green. The belfry of the grade 1 listed building is hosting an art installation by Stephen Lee. It’s a super-soothing, elegant marriage of contemporary art and 19th century architecture – the belfry is up a spiral staircase and feels worlds away from the Bethnal Green tube station bustle just a few metres below. Ten minutes up there should pour a drop of peace into even the most dislocated, atheistic soul.
