Daily MPfree: Trouble Books
Wife-husband duo Trouble Books make music so beautiful, warm and good-natured that you don’t just want them to be a band, but also form a political party and be voted leaders of the world. Their music feels like a breath of fresh air from some half-imagined arcadian paradise, in a similar way to, say, Joanna Newsom or Brightblack Morning Light. They are playing a rare London show at The Betsy Trotwood on Tuesday. I’d strongly suggest impulse-buying some tickets right now.
There are more details on Facebook, of course.
Daily MPfree: Adam Kesher
French electronic indie-rock five-piece Adam Kesher have returned with a new streamlined lineup and a Chromeo-produced second album. This track is the first to see the light of day, and suggests a dancefloor-friendly swing of direction for the record, out early next year in the UK after a new EP. They’ll be in London this December for some live dates.
The Black Cab Sessions
For the uninitiated, the Black Cab Sessions concept is simple: take a band in the back of a randomly flagged cab, and film the resulting performance as they cruise around the East End. From humble beginnings filming promising London newbies, the sessions have since attracted the interest of American TV stations and taken some musical legends along for the ride. Highlights are many – from the barber-shop-style Brian Wilson session to a rainy night time performance from David Thomas Broughton, complete with self-sabotaging improvised looping through a battery powered amp; from the spectral blues-folk of the Smoke Fairies, to the newest session of all, by The Flaming Lips. Click the still below to check that one out, and sign up for their newsletter to hear about some hugely ambitious sessions coming soon…
Daily MPfree: The One
The One are a London four-piece playing 80’s-influenced electronic soul-pop. Masterminded by sometime Fair-Ohs and Heartbreak drummer Joe Ryan, The One is a sultry and winningly musical-heart-on-sleeve concoction. The debut single, “Double Life”, is out on September 13th – grab it here. And the song can be downloaded here.
