Preview: Hudson Mohawke

Incongruity is oh-so pleasing in music. That ‘what the…?!’ feeling when expectations and reality hit the fan just can’t be beat. Someone who’s made his name doing just that is Hudson Mohawke. This is the kid who became the youngest ever UK DMC finalist at 15; the tall, shy Glaswegian who’s breathed fresh life into R&B with his remixes of Tweet and Jodeci; and the Warp Records’ signing who’s funk-riddled, glitchy sound has spawned a dozen new genre nicknames. Having released his phenomenal debut album ‘Butter’ last year, tonight he’ll be helping Hyperdub hero Kode 9 celebrate his DJ Kicks launch along with Lucky Me comrade Rustie and rising star Paul White. Should be a scorcher.
