House Of Balloons/Glass Table Girls by The Weeknd

The Weeknd have been causing much debate amongst broadsheet journos. Partly because of their music – ace, inventive, hybrid R‘n’B – but also because of their adoption by certain ‘super-cool’ webzines/blogs. Apparently this is yet more evidence of Pitchfork and the like jumping on unthreatening, ‘unremarkable’ urban music with a chillwave bent, at the expense of more authentic artists. Nonsense. From what I can gather, The Weeknd are vocalist Abel Tesfaye and producer Jeremy Rose, they’re from Toronto and their free mixtape, House Of Balloons, might just be the best album of the year so far. Go get it!
