The Cabaret of Potty People

I love filth. You can have the stars, I will always turn over for a better view of the gutter. Cabaret for Potty People share my passion, and they fly the freak flag high, but despite their zeal seem to have little idea what they’re doing. The show is very much a work-in-progress, so rather than a review I will offer tips.
Being potty is, in itself, not enough to make an act. Material that worked in the living room won’t necessarily work on stage, It needs to be created in front of crowds less friendly than what CoPP are clearly used to, and it needs to be sooooo much tighter. Three sketches and three stand-up sets should not have lasted over an hour and a half. They should probably pare things down to just jokes and then rebuild, because at the moment the company fights props, battles costumes (mostly losing)and and pays little mind to the audience. There were two of us watching yet the performers played to the empty room instead, making cracks about the physical appearances of people who weren’t there, lap-dancing invisible laps at the expense of the two laps actually present. C’mon! We’re not just human beings you know! We have LAPS too!
