Xiu Xiu, Zola Jesus, Former Ghosts at XOYO
When is a supergroup not a supergroup? When its members aren’t that famous of course! Ok, Zola Jesus, Former Ghosts and Xiu Xiu are minor celebrities around these parts (you might have noticed….) but for the majority their names are likely to result in blank expressions and a couple of pronounciation problems. But don’t dismiss them as misfit never-will-be’s just yet. The upcoming join tour is a rare chance to see three experimental stalwarts playing passionate, complicated and beautiful music – switching effortlessly between proto-goth pop, electronica and weirded-out rock – on one stage. You might be surprised by how super they can be.

Rökkurró
There’s a definite and recognised Icelandic ‘sound’, characterised overtly pretty, etherial melodies, played quietly, and popularised by bands like Múm and Sigur Rós. But there’s also a lot of space yet to be explored within this kind of ambient, heartfelt melancholia. Rökkurró are a scarily young and scarily talented young band who do exactly that, exhibiting spirit, subtlety and versatility across the course of their amazing debut “Í Annan Heim”. They hit London for a couple of shows this October; 21st at The Lexington and 23rd at the Windmill. Don’t miss it.

Snipe Likes: Zola Jesus
Pop queen in waiting Zola Jesus has released a new track from her forthcoming EP Valusia, coming out October 12th via Sacred Bones. It’s another jaw-dropping, emotive vocal performance to fall in love with. Where she summons such commitment from, we don’t yet know. Expect to read about Ms. Jesus in a forthcoming issue.

Errors & The Twilight Sad » 7 October
XOYO | 32-37 Cowper Street, EC2A 4AP
Two of Scotland’s finest new bands share a line-up in what will surely result in XOYO’s noise limiter being tested to its outer limits. The Twilight Sad are masters in the art of noise, orchestrating mass amounts of distortion and feedback into something altogether euphoric, whilst Errors hover somewhere between post-rock and electro, fusing the two genres into an unstoppable dancefloor threat of massive proportions. You’ll be leaving XOYO either deaf, (emotionally) bruised, sweat stained or a heady mixture of the three. Not for the faint of heart.
