Zebra and Snake down their Burden

Burden by Zebra and Snake

You may remember us posting a teaser for this song a few weeks ago – well, Finnish electro-pop maestros Zebra and Snake have now unveiled the full track “Burden” as a free download, ahead of their debut album “Healing Music”. On the strength of the tracks they’ve put out so far it’s going to be, to use a technical music journalism term, a proper corker.

Teeo by Vadoinmessico

Vadoinmessico is very much an international affair, with members from Italy, Mexico, Austria and the UK. Now residing in Hackney, their music swings with a woozy confidence, like Roy Orbison and Avi Buffalo after a fortnight in Tijuana. New single Teeo is released December 19th via Outcaste/PIAS.

Impossible Princess by Chocolate Robots

This song may be as cutesy and fluffy as an unwanted xmas Guinea Pig, but it’s a cracker nonetheless. Mike, Mutt and Marco Giresi (possibly not their real names) work in their parent’s (potentially fabricated) pizza shop. Their debut album of riotous anti-pop is called…wait for it…Pizza Face, and has some real heavyweights involved on the production side – Thom Monahan (Devandra Banhart, Vetiver), Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire). Download it now via their Bandcamp. Their website’s pretty cool too, in a Roy Walker’s Catchphrase kind of way. Apologies to the Giresi’s if all of the above is true.

Grey Shirt & Tie (The Big Pink remix) by Spector

Shades of vintage New Order and touches of The Orb pepper this classy reworking of Spector’s new single, by fellow Dalston scenesters The Big Pink. Grey Shirt & Tie is out now on Luv Luv Luv. Spector embark on a full headline UK tour in February.

AM & Shawn Lee - City Boy

Here’s a beautifully produced hazy pop earworm for you from American duo AM & Shawn Lee. They have a collaborative album coming up soon entitled “Celestial Electric”, and it’s loaded with dreamy anthems like this one – recommended.

Droplet Affection (Stripped) by Ursa Minor

Ursa Minor ‘Droplet Affection’ from Ursa Minor (Little Bear) on Vimeo.

Droplet Affection is the debut single from Yoshee, Alex, Evee
and Little Bear, otherwise known as Ursa Minor. Both band and song represent perfectly formed little nuggets of house revivalism, with an elegant, operatic pop twist, perfect for those nights/mornings when going to bed first seems like the most hideous of cardinal sins. Download a stripped back version of the single, out now on Invader Music, below.

Snake Charmer (Young Galaxy Remix) by CFCF

(The photo is Young Galaxy, not CFCF)

Vancouver’s Young Galaxy have spent the year remixing the hell out of their compatriots – Austra, Grimes, Junior Boys. You can now get the best ones, including a reworking of the very British The Pipettes and the very Swedish The Sounds, together on a free compilation album entitled Versus. They’ll also be releasing a deluxe edition of their Polaris Prize nominated album Shapeshifting on December 13th. Top marks too, for seemingly managing to recruit The Edge for this CFCF track.

U Got the Power by Swiss Lips

There’s been a glut of really interesting, characteristically unique music emanating from Manchester recently, some of which we’ve featured on these very pages – Silverclub, Burning Buildings. Swiss Lips are no exception. Their website is frustratingly sparse and difficult to use – note to bands, this does not make you appear ‘enigmatic’, it’s merely irritating – so there’s not much I can tell you, apart from the fact they make accomplished, catchy electro-pop with a slight Scandinavian vibe. Judge for yourselves below.
