Daily MPfree: Benni Hemm Hemm

Icelander Benni Hemm Hemm plays live with anything from 4 to 40 musicians. “Retaliate” is a nice demonstration of how his songs manage to be both intimate and extroverted through the course of their 3 or 4 minutes. Pick up the Retaliate EP from their venerable Reykjavik label, Kimi Records.

Snipe Daily MPfree: Send Us Your Tracks
Here at Snipe, we want only the best for you, dear readers. That’s why we spend so much time poring over our previews, and sending you on your way to the most interesting shows, plays and exhibitions in town.
So, as we’re in the digital age and all, we’ve decided to go one step further, and dish up the best free music we come across every day on the Snipe website under the banner of the Daily MPfree. There are lots up already, in all kinds of genres – be it Sheffield indie-pop from Standard Fare, NYC “glo-fi” from Twin Sister and Teen Daze, or krautrock from Brighton via Osaka from our issue #1 stars Drum Eyes… have a listen, maybe you’ll find something you like.
Often, the Daily MPfrees will be by bands that are playing somewhere in London that night, so if you really do fall in love, you can get out there and see it live. And if you haven’t got the time or inclination to check back daily, there’ll be a monthly compilation of all the tracks that featured.
But as well as listening, we want to hear your recommendations. Whether it’s a track you’ve made, or by your friend’s unsigned band; or maybe you work as a DIY label or a music publicist. Whatever. If it’s copyright-cleared for us to offer as a download, shoot it over to us, and if it floats our boat, it’ll get used.
Upload songs to our Soundcloud at http://bit.ly/snipelondon. Stick a MySpace or a website URL in message. And maybe you’ll hear from us down the line. Don’t be offended if you don’t. We still love you.
And in the meantime, we hope you enjoy the Daily MPfrees!

Daily MPfree: Sam Amidon

A grim folk tale set against mathy, shuffling backing. Sam Amidon plays Bush Hall tonight.

Daily MPfree: Twin Sister

A preview of this Hotly Tipped Brooklyn Lo-Fi Quintet, remixed here into an amniotic, dreamy slab of electronica by Teen Daze.

Daily MPfree: This Many Boyfriends

To-cool-for-art-school indie-pop upstarts This Many Boyfriends have released a taster from their forthcoming EP “Getting A Life With This Many Boyfriends”. It’s a song with a massive possible double-meaning in the chorus that singer Richard says was unintended, so we’re left not knowing whether the song’s protagonist likes it’s subject or not. You’ll have to guess.
Order the EP, with badges and a fanzine, from Thee SPC here.

Daily MPfree: Exclusive track from Drum Eyes forthcoming album Gira Gira

We have an exclusive download from the forthcoming Drum Eyes album Gira Gira for you. The accompanying spiel says it pretty well: “It’s a real triumph of an album and finally sees DJ Scotch Egg make an album deserved of attention not only from his loyal fanbase but far and wide across the metal, ambient and electronic worlds of modern music, it’s an album that obliterates genres with pride and grace, whilst remaining true in it’s identity and ability to lodge in your mind.”
See Drum Eyes headlining Brainlove Festival 2010 this weekend.

Daily MPfree: Fight For Me

Chilly churchy vibes on the new Wildbirds & Peacedrums EP, Retina, out May 24th on The Leaf Label. Reminiscent of Vespertine-era Björk and Bat For Lashes doing her best Kate Bush impression. Which is, I guess, all the time.
You can catch them in LDN this Saturday.

Daily MPfree: Standard Fare

I’ve been pretty hung up on Sheffield three-piece Standard Fare‘s heartfelt indie-pop lately. What initially seemed simplistic has been revealed as smart and engaging, via strikingly honest lyrics about relationship woe. Their debut record ‘The Noyelle Beat’ is out on TheeSPC, and they support Allo Darlin’ at the Lexington on June 15th.

What Can The Matter Be?

Some days you really do just want to start worshiping the internets, and today is one of ‘em. For one of the best music blogs there is, Delicious Scopitone, has released another fantastic free compilation of hazy, dreamy lost-pop songs. It comes with the strangest feeling that we’ve heard these songs before, a kind of creeping, nostalgic, washed-out déjà-vu…
Get it here.
