Sin Kitty - Vanity Daze
A beautiful cover for a beautiful, honest song. Unashamedly tapping elements of 90s indie-rock, slowcore and shoegaze, this is one for fans of Throwing Muses as much as fans of Big Deal.

Jonquil - Run (Keep Shelly In Athens Remix)
Sunny Oxonian pop boys Jonquil have released a remix by their US-tour-buddies Keep Shelly In Athens. Their bright-eyed, white-toothed, wholesome pop sound is hand-washed in those ubiquitous reverby synth textures and R&B basslines that all the cool kids are into right now. In this case, it happily makes for enjoyable listening rather than let’s-go-to-E8-and-punch-a-fake-R&B-loving-hipster vibez. Awesome! Catch Jonquil live at Cargo on May 23rd.

Enjoyed - Teeth
Here’s a beautifully warm, immersive dance track from fast-rising producer Enjoyed. He’s apparently a synesthesiac – from both the look and sound of this delicious single, we reckon there’ll be many more exciting, prismic tracks to come from him in 2012. One to watch, and no mistake.

6001 Hulls - dad rocks keeps up
Here’s a nice way to start a week of MPfrees. An unknown (allegedly) Sheffield-based mashup producer working under the moniker 6001 Hulls (seemingly named after a Futurama skit) has taken the scalpel to the work of Dad Rocks! to create a strikingly pretty mashup version that includes elements of several of his tracks.
Although, as Dad Rocks! famously keeps his work under a Creative Commons copyright license that allows for non-commercial creative reinterpretation, 6001 Hulls’ self-stated mission “to receive a cease-and-desist” may take a bit longer than he/she thinks. We’re not sure about how Tubelord view such things – his/her similarly excellent remix of them is below.

She Said by The Shutes
Our obsession with this Isle of Wight four-piece is steadily reaching fever pitch. Finally … potentially … possibly we may have stumbled across a British guitar band to truly believe in. We heart The Shutes.

Big Black Smoke by Joe Innes & The Cavalcade
London anti-folk troubadour and comic book fanatic Joe Innes has just released a new album with his band The Cavalcade, their first as a group in fact. Download it here. If today’s MPFree floats your proverbial boat, head down to the Slaughtered Lamb on April 28th for the album launch party.

Mat Riviere - Lamplight (Candy Empire Remix)
The third in our Estonia-UK remix series is Tallinn-based electro-pop act Candy Empire’s remix of UK solo artist Mat Riviere. Candy Empire have taken sounds from Riviere’s delicate, minimal composition and, basically, put a wonky donk on it. You can hear the catchy results below.

Candy Empire - Forming (Mat Riviere Remix)
Continuing the Estonian-UK remix swap theme this week, today we have Mat Riviere‘s remix of Candy Empire. He scrawls piano and drone across the scratchy guitar of the original, creating a completely different take on “Forming”.
Candy Empire are on Facebook here; find out more about Mat’s forthcoming album here. The two share a stage this Friday night at Tallinn Music Week.

Napoleon IIIrd - That Town (Candy Empire Remix)
The second in this week’s series of the Tallinn Music Week UK-Estonian remix swap sees Candy Empire take on Napoleon IIIrd‘s “That Town”, stripping the original’s lush instrumentation back to a feel-good singalong that sounds like it could be made by a long line of people dancing through the hills… listen to the remix, entitled Candy Empire’s March For Love Mix, below. Tomorrow, another Candy Empire remix of Mat Riviere – all these bands share a stage this Friday night over in Tallinn.
