Now is a good time to pick and eat London's blackberries
Mike Pollitt | Thursday 4 August, 2011 10:34
In late August and through September they are ripe, and they are juicy.
Good places to find blackberries in London include:
- Hackney Marshes
- Hampstead Heath
- Wormwood Scrubs
- Wimbledon Common
- Hyde Park
And anywhere else that seems likely, you’ll work it out.
Try to avoid fruit on a main road – exhaust fumes affect the taste. Also if it’s clinging to the bush, it’s not ready. A ripe blackberry requires the gentlest pluck.
Things to do with them include:
- Blackberry vodka
- Blackberry crumble
- Blackberry smoothie
- Blackberry jam
- Blackberry loads of other recipes
Also remember that blackberries freeze tremendously well. So pluck the hell out of em.
