Now is a good time to pick and eat London's blackberries

In late August and through September they are ripe, and they are juicy.

Good places to find blackberries in London include:

  • Hackney Marshes
  • Hampstead Heath
  • Wormwood Scrubs
  • Wimbledon Common
  • Hyde Park

And anywhere else that seems likely, you’ll work it out.

Try to avoid fruit on a main road – exhaust fumes affect the taste. Also if it’s clinging to the bush, it’s not ready. A ripe blackberry requires the gentlest pluck.

Also remember that blackberries freeze tremendously well. So pluck the hell out of em.
