Brainlove Festival 2013: Bastardgeist

John Rogers | Sunday 5 May, 2013 19:42

This week, SNIPE is looking at the musicians playing the Brainlove Festival, Saturday 11 May at the Windmill Brixton.

Now: Bastardgeist

1) Hello! Please introduce yourself to our readers. Who are you, where are from, and what do you do?

My name is Joel and I play under the name Bastardgeist. I’m from Chicago, IL

2) You’re playing BRNLV FSTVL on May 11th – have you played before, or if you haven’t, have you any expectations?

I performed a couple years ago when David Thomas Broughton was on the bill. It was an amazing night. Looking forward to seeing friends and playing some new songs

3) Could you give us a Soundcloud link of a recent single or track, and tell us about it plz – recording, writing, subject matter, whatever seems most important?

This is a song I recorded with Oli Barrett of Bleeding Heart Narrative. It’s about being a kid and realizing that adults are vulnerable and screwed up and that the world pretty much breaks everybody… In other words, a real feel good piece.

4) The BRNLV label is 10 this year. Do you own a Brainlove Record? Do you have a personal favourite?

I own a bunch of Brainlove Records. For the sake of diplomacy I won’t publicly declare a favorite. But most recently I’m really proud of/blown away by Mat Riviere’s new record.

5) Do you have any tours or releases coming up? What’s next?

I’m actually playing a few dates around the UK for my new record, Infinite Lives, which should be available for pre-order and download shortly. There’s one in Norwich on the 12th, and another London show on the 15th
