Man Like Me - Sleaze
Joe Morrison | Thursday 28 February, 2013 13:59
Sleaze looks like Robert Palmer, but sounds like Peter Gabriel. With their trademark touch of cheeky camp, Man Like Me pull off a bold and beautiful homage to 80’s white boy soul – whether intentional or not. A concoction of cost-effective synths, hypnotic woodblocks (!) and brass stabs are balanced by undeniable swagger.
Currently signed to Mike Skinner’s resurrected Beats label, Camden duo Johnny Langer and Pete Duffy have been building a cult following by perfecting a carnival tinged live act, flip-flopping across 70’s two-tone, 90’s R&B/garage and 80’s funk genres. New album Pillow Talk is out Monday (March 4); catch them at their ramshackle best at Brixton Plan B, March 6.
