Who we gonna call to save us from the Regent's Canal slime?

You know that scene in Ghostbusters II when Dan Ackroyd discovers the river of slime? Here it is in neon green, as it was originally intended.

Scary, eh? Well Londoners, this exact thing is happening in our city right now. Here is the slime encircling the feet of a young damsel on Regent’s Canal.

Here is an account of a canoe trip down Regent which compares it to an Amazonian rainforest.

And here is a plea for volunteers to help clean up the River Lee before its slimy maleficence overwhelms us all. In Ghostbusters II the slime was caused by the negative emotions of New Yorkers. Only positive feelings were able to dispel it. Please bear this in mind over the coming days.
