Brainlove Mixtape 2011
Hello all, this is your music editor speaking. Seeing as we saved our end-of-year palava until the actual end of the year when everyone was away / drunk / farting on the sofa watching Only Fools & Horses, I thought I’d belatedly share this best-of mixtape. The tracks were selected by the artists on Brainlove Records – there’s a song by each band, and a song they picked as their favourite of the year. The tracklist is to be found here, or you can alternatively stream it on Mixcloud if you are a Mixcloudologist. Enjoy!

Christmas Tall Stories

Our tip-for-2012 Tall Stories, bigged up in the current issue of the paper as one of London’s best new bands, dust off their riotous, punky indie-rock for a clutch of LDN gigs over the next fortnight. For the Good Mixer they take over the legendary (tiny) Britpop pub, who are loading in a PA and stacking up the pool tables for a Saturday night party gig that can only end in some form of drunken rioting.

Future Islands To Tour Current Islands

After their one-off London show on Dec 8th (at Rhythm Factory) and an ATP festival appearance on the Dec 9th, Future Islands have announced an epic European tour in Feb/March 2012 in support of their excellent new album “On The Water”. Known as much for the deranged theatrics of singer Samuel T Herring (pictured) as they are for their catchy, pulsing synthpop, Future Islands live show is not to be missed. You hear that, you naughty Future Islands live show missers? Get down there!
They’ve also given away a remix of the album’s bonus track, “Crish”.
Future Islands – Crish (Javelin Remixxx) by thrilljockey
The band say of the remix: “Crish is a song that was recorded for On the Water but the lyrics weren’t completed in time to make the cut.We asked Javelin if they would do a remix of it for a bonus track. At this point, we’re not sure if our version of ‘Crish’ will ever see the light of day, but we really love what Javelin did with it… I feel like it’s more of a collaboration than a remix.”
See the full list of tour dates after the jump.

Go see this tonight: Applicants
Fidel Villeneuve’s post-Digital-Hardcore project is a colourful endeavor. Usually semi-naked and smeared in fake blood, the trio have expanded to a quartet to include a drummer, and play hysteric, comedic, full-throttle cartoon pop ‘n’ roll, sprinkled with non-sequitor samples, bizarre middle eights and key changes.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Century:1969
At last year’s The Amaz!ng Meeting, a two-day conference of sceptics and debunkers of bunkum, Alan Moore was the final guest speaker. Imposing and grizzled, he divined the question he thought everyone was asking.
