We’re less than a week into the six week long period of give-uppance known as Lent. Well, “we” technically aren’t. But you might be! And if you are putting your vices aside and pleasures put on pause to honour the death and resurrection of Christ, QI’s John Mitchinson had some words of inspiration for you to consider at last night’s Idler Academy:
Mr Mitchinson urged us to see Lent not as an opportunity simply for self-denial, but instead as a time to strengthen the self. “Fast”, he said, actually means “strong”. This should be a time, he said, to read poetry every day, play more music, or sing.
