City Hall as it could have been: an architectural monstrosity on the Thames

In 1984, architects were asked to submit plans to redevelop the area around the Tower Bridge and the submissions were just bizarre. In addition to the neo-Jacobean above, there was ‘Venice on the Thames’, and some sort of boring thing that looks like a John Lewis in Milton Keynes.

Cooler heads prevailed and none were built. Eventually the land was used for London’s City Hall.) in 2002.
