With Yonder Burning Trees, South Londoner Mat Gibson has on his hands a slice of pretty, yearning Americana of the highest quality. The spectre of Jim James’ sometimes smooth, sometimes croaky baritone looms large, but this is no My Morning Jacket tribute piece; it comfortably inhabits a reassuringly small world of its own. The mini-album from whence it came, Forest Fire, is released this coming Monday, October 3rd, via Clubhouse Records.
