Bleeding Heart Narrative - Shoals
A rip-roaring, melodic, adrenalized post post-rock ride that lingers in the wide open space between Arcade Fire and Battles. Powerful, affecting stuff. See them live at The Wheelbarrow on Nov 17th with Fireworks Night and Bastardgeist.

Psychoanalysis by Brian Hoffer
Brian Hoffer seems like a pretty unassuming Milwaukee chap. He makes fun music for fun times, like a cross between Lawrence from Felt, Brendan Benson and Ben Folds. Psychoanalysis is taken from his debut long-player Into the Boulevard, available now via his website.

Hollandaze by Odonis Odonis
Fuzzy, lo-fi surf punk/gaze from Toronto, courtesy of Brighton’s Fat Cat Records (Breton, Mazes, some band called Sigur Rós…). Hollandaze is the title track from Odonis Odonis’ debut album, released November 7th. It got me thinking about other possible food-based puns which could double up as awesome album/song titles – ‘Playing Ketchup’, ‘In the Gravy’, ‘Second Cumin’…’Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Curd’ (ahem)…

Nuclear Seasons by Charli XCX
Snipe goes all Smash Hits on yo’ ass (that’s how the young people talk isn’t it?) for today’s MPFree, from London teen songstress Charli XCX. According to the lady herself, ‘Nuclear Seasons is about a sense of decay. Whether it be the decaying of love, the decaying of life or the decaying of a period of time. Its about being lost and frozen and surviving’. Whatever Charli, just keep churning out gloomy synth-pop gems like this, chuck in some cynical marketing and we’ll all be happy, ok? It’ll be business as usual tomorrow MPFree fans – some virtually unlistenable surf-gaze coming right back at ya (I should stop doing this now). Download Nuclear Seasons for free here.

Gold Fools by Spanish Prisoners
Gold Fools, the new album from Brooklyn quartet Spanish Prisoners, is as eclectic as it is tuneful, bringing to mind The Flaming Lips and Deerhunter amongst others.
